Starfish AP is looking for a caring and dependable Support Worker/Mentor to work with children and young people aged 7–16 across our Hampshire settings.

You will build trusted relationships, provide consistent support and help learners feel safe enough to engage with education, practical activities and their wider development.

About the role

Working alongside teachers and provision leaders, you will support young people whose needs may include SEMH difficulties, anxiety, trauma, persistent non-attendance or disengagement from education.

  • Build safe, consistent and respectful relationships with individual learners.
  • Support emotional regulation, engagement and positive participation throughout each session.
  • Assist with personalised learning, practical activities and life-skills development.
  • Help maintain calm routines, clear boundaries and welcoming environments.
  • Observe and record progress, concerns and relevant information accurately.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, schools and other professionals.

About you

You will be patient, reliable and able to remain calm when a young person is distressed or disengaged. Experience of working with children, young people, SEND, SEMH, youth services or alternative provision would be valuable. Most importantly, you will be curious about the need behind behaviour and committed to helping every learner feel seen and supported.

Why join Starfish AP?

You will join a supportive team where small, consistent acts of care are valued. This is an opportunity to make a visible difference to young people who need trusted adults, meaningful experiences and a practical route back towards progress.

Safeguarding

Starfish AP is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Appointment will be subject to safer recruitment checks, including satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.
