Consistent adults, calm environments and trusted relationships help learners develop emotional awareness, confidence, self-regulation and a renewed sense of belonging.

Practical activities help young people develop communication, teamwork, independence and employability skills, preparing them for life beyond their placement.
A structured day, shaped around the individual
Our three-hour sessions provide consistency and structure without overwhelming the learner.
A typical session may include a wellbeing check-in, personalised English or maths, AQA or practical learning, life-skills development and time for reflection.
The structure remains predictable, while the content and pace adapt to the individual. As engagement grows, goals are reviewed and the programme develops with the learner.
Frequently asked questions
Who can be referred to Starfish AP?
We support children and young people aged 7–16 whose needs may include social, emotional and mental health difficulties, emotionally based school avoidance, persistent non-attendance, anxiety, trauma or attachment-related needs.
We may also support learners at risk of suspension, exclusion or further disengagement from education. Every referral is considered individually.
What does a Starfish AP placement include?
Placements are personalised around the learner and may include English and maths, AQA Unit Award Scheme opportunities, practical learning, life skills and emotional development.
We agree clear goals and provide regular communication and progress reporting throughout the placement.
How do I make a referral?

We will discuss their needs, current circumstances and intended outcomes before considering whether Starfish AP can offer a suitable placement.
